Producing the bezel in Germany and shipping it to England for ink transfer wood grain application made its manufacture complicated as well. Switching from ink transfer to film insert molding resulted in a greater than 10% cost reduction on the part alone. In addition, DPI demonstrated how its process provided increased design flexibility, reduced rejects and increased part consistency. And, besides saving on the decoration, Ford also saved the transport costs of shipping the parts to England.
